Congruence patterns of aquatic communities in a tropical river basin, Malaysia

چکیده
Abstract The loss of aquatic biodiversity in tropical streams SE Asia is evident due to increasing anthropogenic activities. Therefore, there a necessity for immediate and feasible conservation plans. Effective planning depends on successful application surrogate groups. However, progress this approach hindered by the paucity relevant reports based cross-taxon congruence analysis. In study, we investigated patterns among groups (Plecoptera, Trichoptera, Ephemeroptera, Odonata fish) six rivers located Kerian River Basin (KRB), Malaysia. Species richness was significantly correlated (except Ephemeroptera Trichoptera where r = 0.040 P = 0.202). strongest relationship species reported between Plecoptera. Mantel's r coefficient similarity matrices (based Bray-Curtis distance measure) showed positive correlation Ephemeroptera-Trichoptera Plecoptera-Trichoptera. negative Odonata-fish matrices. relationships average Trichoptera-Odonata centroid (i.e. beta diversity) were also investigated. centroids (R2 = 0.424, P

Demarcation of Groundwater Prospective Zones in Humid Tropical River Basin: A Geospatial Approach
Groundwater, being a vital resource, needs to be developed with proper understanding about its occurrence in time and space. Unscientific sand mining is a dominant environmental issue in this humid tropical river basin namely Bharathapuzha river basin geographically on central part of Kerala state, southwest part of India. The sandy layers along the river course declines its water holding capac...
متن کاملEngaging Local Communities through Local Knowledge of Flood Disaster Management in the Pahang River Basin, Malaysia
Natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes impact many parts of Southeast Asia. In Malaysia, recent floods—such as those in 2014−2015—have caused untold damage to property and livelihoods. Up to that point, flood management had mainly emphasized disaster response, rather than risk-reduction strategies. The aim of this paper is to identify the local knowledge and practices of flood-affecte...
متن کاملDistribution of Total Petrogenic Hydrocarbon in Dungun River Basin, Malaysia
A study was carried out in the Dungun River basin, southern South China Sea coastal area, during the period of March-July 2003 to determine the distribution of total petrogenic hydrocarbon (TPH). Surface water samples were collected and TPH determined using UVfluorescence spectroscopy. The results showed that the concentration of TPH was in the range of 2.0-40.8 μg/L (mean 12.9 ± 8.8 μg/L). The...
متن کاملDiversity of aquatic prokaryotic communities in the Cuatro Cienegas basin.
The Cuatro Cienegas basin (Coahuila, México) is a composite of different water systems in the middle of the desert with unusually high levels of endemism and diversity in different taxa. Although the diversity of macrobiota has been well described, little is known about the diversity and distribution of microorganisms in the oligotrophic ponds. Here we describe the extent and distribution of di...
متن کاملDistribution and abundance of high aquatic plants in the Gorganroud River, the Caspian Sea basin, Iran
The distribution and abundance of high aquatic plants in the Gorganroud River was examined at five stations in four seasons (20 samples) over one year period during 2009-2010. We identified 21 species of aquatic plants from 21 genera, belonging to 9 families. These species were determined as 3 halophytic species (14.2%) and 18 high aquatic plants (85.7%).The highest species diversity was observ...
